Park Ridge CHILDREN'S ORCHESTRA

ELIGIBILITY
  • children in Grades 1-4 from public and private schools interested in learning violin, viola or cello; we serve Park Ridge and the surrounding suburbs, and, of course, NW Chicago
PERFORMANCES
  • Winter Concert, End-of-Year Concert (late May)
MATERIALS FEE
  • an annual fee of $25/student/year provide a music binder with assignment sheets, hand and bow warm-ups, all songs, scales, rhythm sheets, practice plan, and case stickers. There is no additional cost involved.

  • “Mary, Seat of Wisdom School” (Door #20), 1335 S. Clifton, Park Ridge, IL 60068
  • One block west of Cumberland, 2 blocks south of Devon, in Park Ridge  Directions
REHEARSAL TIMES:
  • Beginning Group: Saturdays 9:00 - 9:45 am (started September 10, 2011)
  • Next Beginning Group: Saturdays 8:00 - 8:45 am (starting January 7, 2012)
FALL REHEARSAL DATES:
  • Sept. 10, 17, 24; Oct. 8, 15, 22, 29, Nov. 5, 12, 19; Dec. 3, 10
WINTER/SPRING REHEARSAL DATES:
  • Jan. 7, 14, 21, 28; Feb. 4, 11, 18, 25; Mar. 4, 11, 18, 25; Apr. 8, 15, 22; May 6, 13, 20, 27

CURRICULUM (Traditional European Method with Suzuki and other elements) 
1. Instrument and bow parts; their basic care and maintenance
2. Correct posture and bow hold; relaxed and efficient use of the body
3. Hand and bow exercises (for control, flexibility and stamina)
4. Rhythmic patterns through games and rhymes
5. Note-reading, musical terms and symbols
6. Routines of ensemble playing and rehearsing
7. Performance etiquette (rest position, bowing)
8. Fun songs to play for or with family and friends!

WHAT DO I NEED TO START?
  • Complete and submit the registration form and mail the annual materials fee ($25).
  • An instrument (rental information) and a music stand for home practice are needed.             All sheet music is provided in a binder.

STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
While we attempt to enhance every student’s life experience through music making, we are not trained, certified or licensed in special education or music therapy, therefore teaching students with special needs (developmental, cognitive, motor, behavioral, or emotional) is outside of the scope of our programs.
