LATE STARTERS' ORCHESTRAThe LSO is open to adults interested in playing string instruments (violin, viola, cello, bass). Beginners and intermediate players are most welcome.
A program of PARK RIDGE STRINGS in suburban Chicago, the LSO is a teaching string orchestra for adult late starters (aged 25 and over), that encourages you to experience music-making by learning and performing music that is engaging, expressive and playable by a wide range of abilities. By promoting a supportive and non-competitive environment, even complete beginners can experience playing in an orchestral setting from their very first rehearsal. Players with previous playing experience will be offered the opportunity to be section leaders and run occasional sectionals. There is NO audition required, and ALL sheet music is provided. MEMBERSHIP / TUITION is FREE. REHEARSALS start January 16, 2012, on Monday evenings, 8-8:45 PM, at "Mary, Seat of Wisdom" School (Door #20, at 1335 S. Clifton, Park Ridge, IL 60068) Directions REHEARSAL DATES (Winter/Spring 2012): Jan. 16, 23, 30; Feb. 6, 13, 20, 27; Mar. 5, 19, 26; Apr. 16, 23, 30; May 7, 14, 21 CONCERTS: There are two performances per season (December and May). INSTRUMENT RENTAL information is here. Monthly rates average $20 for violin/viola and $33 for cello. Bass rental info is here.
